New:In the New York Times article, “Lessons From Failure”, it explains how students and some teenagers nowadays are being hand fed by their parents every step of the way in their life. It explains how hard it is for kids to now let go of parental guidance and control as children become to get older. It also explains that middle school, high school, and college students still rely on their parents to remind them of important dates and deadlines that they have. Failure and making mistakes could become your best friend in the future. There is no personal growth, reflection, or strength that is attained when a parent or adult is holding your hand every step of the way in life. If you don’t make mistakes and are not confronted for those mistakes, how can someone expect to learn from those mistakes and make sure that they never happen again? You must get things wrong in order to evaluate the mistakes that were made, reflect, and make sure that as the future comes and time passes, those mistakes will start to dwindle away. When life is hand fed to you by an adult, there is no way of recognizing and solving the problems that are being made by yourself. Failure is a natural part of life and everyone should encounter it every so often. Nobody is perfect, everyone is human, which means that everyone is going to make mistakes and hopefully learn from them.

No one should expect themselves to be perfect, no one should expect to never make a mistake and never have to go through hardships in life. Life is always throwing curveballs at you that you might not be ready for. But luckily, if you can recognize those curveballs by yourself and evaluate how to solve and attack them, life’s problems will become slimmer and slimmer, and the outcomes will become much better. Having a shoulder to lean on in rough times is not a bad thing, but you must realize that eventually, those rough times will only be resolved if you confront them and figure them out yourself. Students especially rely heavily on their guardians to keep their life organized, but they have to understand that life will not always be a walk in the park while holding someone’s hand. Eventually, they must try and heavily rely on themselves to keep their own life organized, in order to grow as a human being. Part of the process of becoming an adult is self growth, not only physical but a majority of it is mental. And, by relying on others to make sure that everything you do is fine and perfect, does not support that self growth.

In high school, a lot of students still rely on their parents to make sure that all of their assignments, due dates, projects, etc. are done for their children. Although this does add an extra bit of security when it comes to turning in assignments, it doesn’t actually help students grow or become more independent. Instead, it gives the student an excuse and creates bad habits in the students life because of the lack of mindfulness when it comes to knowing when everything in their life is going to happen. It allows the student to kick back and let their parents do all the work for them and tell them when they must start and finish all of their assignments. By taking away this freedom and forcing the students to take responsibility in their own life and stay mindful of their own assignments, it creates good habits that will lead them to more successful lives in the future because of this independence that they have acquired. This sets the students up on a good habit path which will carry on throughout their adulthood in which they can pass their knowledge and lessons on to their children, grandchildren, and so on.
